FM Qureshi needs to wake up on Pak-US ties under Joe Biden

Foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi must be on a long leave from the real world to say that the Biden Administration’s priorities and those of the bumbling government he represents are in alignment. Nothing can be farther from the truth. The two issues that he mentions as examples of shared views---climate change and corruption---are self-serving rhetoric. Bloated and fake figures on tree plantations are NOT caring for the environment. Scandalous political persecution is NOT a fight against corruption. At any rate, the latest Transparency International report that documents Pakistan’s consistent slide on the corruption index under the Imran government drills more holes in an already torn sheet of lies about the so-called anti-corruption agenda.

The reality is that the Biden Administration sits opposite to the Imran government on fundamental issues. The Danial Pearl murder controversy is an outstanding example of these deep divisions. You only need to read the US secretary of state Anthony Blinken’s tweets about his conversation with his counterparts in India and Pakistan to know about the new administration’s priorities and where it locates the value of bilateral interests with both the countries.

In fact, the new Administration’s reaction to the acquittal of the Daniel Pearl’s murder accused goes beyond a statement of differences. It is a damning indictment of how in Washington’s perception the Pakistani courts are operating and how low its faith is in their judicial probity. FM Qureshi has used the standard defense of Pakistan’s awkward position on the matter saying the courts here are free. This will be a hard sell in Washington considering the large body of evidence that the US embassy here must have reported diligently on the judiciary’s performance. They must have documented the proceedings of cases like the Army chief’s extension, Panama, the formation of benches and JITs, episodes involving judges Arshad Malik and Javed Iqbal, the Election Commission’s handling of the foreign funding complaint against the PTI, and half a dozen cases involving the prime minister himself that are just pending and pending. They must have paid special attention to the Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Siddiqi cases and noted how things actually unfold in the judicial echelons. That’s a dreadfully long list negating the line the FM is peddling regarding judicial independence.

A raft of other issues also put the Biden Administration poles apart from the Imran government. Press freedom, state of fundamental liberties, state of democracy and transparency, missing persons, shrinking space for political dissent, and a Trump-like assault on political opponents and critics are just a few examples. The army’s role in the present system, subversion of the electoral process,  and the endless saga of jailing and humiliating all those who speak out against the present lot running the country are real-life matters confronting the core values that the Biden Administration at least claims to stand by and adhere to. Add to this the FATF, Afghanistan, CPEC and chronic concerns like Pakistan’s nuclear weapons, and you will understand why foreign minister Qureshi along with his prime minister and the Establishment running this sleeping palace needs a serious wake-up call on what lies ahead for Pakistan’s relations with the US.

  1. Leadership appears to be more conscious about their moral identity, So they might take time to reconstruct premises for a mutually beneficial agenda with Biden's Administration for maintaining peace and controlling mobocratic terrorism in South Asia. Despite the fact that there is an anti-government sentiment and people's reaction about Imran Khan's Government has been observed to be Nihilistic. There is a major portion of the Population which is still ready to believe Leadership of the Armed Forces. I say this with full confidence because they have been influencing political infrastructure in the election 2018. PTI's reclaiming Power was purely a reiteration of the schema used to overthrow the monarch during the French Revolution. Imran Khan successfully multiplied hatred among people by raising the slogan of corruption. Yet PTI itself is required to do a lot more to achieve the Political Values that they want Pakistani Society to Strive for. "Please know kay majority of the urban and suburban areas is tired by exercising welfarism now. Itni charity ki hay kay ab khud charity pe zindagee guzar rahe hay, skill ki koi value nae rahe, rozgaar tabaah ho chukay hain Please watch this,

Jo Population in Vlogs kay zreay bator subscriber ikathi ki jaati hay saari duniya kay crimes bhi unhe pe practice kiay jatay hain ? yeh Actors police ki skin use kerti hain what i meant by this is that subliminally they justify these kind of social crimes by depicting themselves as Informer of the government officials, Police, ISPR and other Armed Forces. Colonies, private societies main kaam kernay wali nokraniyan bhi mobocracy main aa chuki hain i am giving you a heads up. un kay paas bhe smart phones hain 50 50 nokraniyon kay whatsapp groups hain. un main sab se ziada GHUNDI RUN PARDHAAN MANTRI hoti hay unki. Why there is no one to address concerns like these? Khush rahiey !! aashiyanay ki baat kertay ho dil jalanay ki baat kertay ho.
